The space

Heliumcowboy artspace is an established commercial gallery founded in 2002 by owner and artist Jörg Heikhaus. The gallery’s aim has always been to support contemporary artists, and it has built up a strong reputation in pioneering urban art, showing Boris Hoppek and Victor Castillo amongst others. However, disregarding traditional art boundaries and exhibition conventions are crucial aspects of its programme, and have made The Culture Trip name heliumcowboy artspace “the most subversive art establishment operating in Hamburg today.” As part of this open-minded attitude, heliumcowboy artspace has now decided to work together with guest curators. It provides them with the institutional support yet freedom needed to develop curatorially experimental approaches, hence introducing new artists and ways of display to the gallery and the Hamburg art scene at large.
